DIY - Papier Mache Easter Egg Smash Gifts!

Tools Needed:



1. Latex Balloons

2. Elmer's Glue

3. Cornstarch

4. Shredded Newspaper

5. String

6. Hanger

7. Exacto Knife

8. Tape

9. Paint, stickers, glitter, etc. (for decorating the egg)


DIRECTIONS:


STEP 1:

Mix equal parts of Elmer's Glue, Cornstarch, and Water (this is your slurry).


STEP 2:

Blow up your balloons until they reach the desired "egg shape."

(Sometimes stretching your balloon first helps.)


STEP 3:

Tie a piece of string about 8-10 inches long to the tied end of the balloon.

(This is for hanging it to dry later.)


STEP 4:

Dip shredded newspaper into your slurry mixture, be sure to wipe off the excess slurry, and then apply it to your balloon.

Work in patches until the balloon is fully covered, then add a second layer.

Hang to dry for 24 hours.


STEP 5:

Instructions for Cutting a Papier Mâché Egg:

1. Mark your cut lines on the egg with a pen.

2. Carefully cut the papier mâché egg in half.

3. Mark each half with an arrow for easy alignment later.


STEP 6:

Finishing Instructions:

1. Paint the insides and let them dry.

2. Prepare the slurry mixture (see Step 1).

3. Fill your egg halves with Easter grass or confetti, then add your gifts or prizes.

4. Put your egg back together. Use a few pieces of tape to secure the halves, then reapply papier mâché over the cut edges, peeling off the tape as you work.

5. Hang to dry for 24 hours.
